Ribs.......New Job

So my new job is going well.  I'm managing to downsize the amount of pain killers to make it through the day.  Ribs are still painful but better.

My neighbor asked me if I shot my horse.  No......I have been bucked off, rolled with, fell with and so on so many times it is amazing I have not broken more bones.  Really..

So that is my update.  I am hoping to try a little rotary cutting this weekend, as I am right handed and my broken ribs are on my right side.  I'll keep you posted.......

UPDATE:  I never got this post published so here it is.  Now on my second week and ribs are doing good, except the one that fully broke (still really sore).  Couldn't rotary cut, then both hubby and Hailey got the flu at the same time this week, so been a little crazy.  Wanting to work on binding tonight.

Still sleeping in the recliner as laying fully down is painful, and rolling over.

New job is going good, getting a lot of input in and a little free reign.  Loving it....

Throwback Thursday!!!!  Hailey and Hubby many moons ago...

Finished Top & Broken Bones

So Thursday I finished the coffee wall hanging.

These are the fabrics I used.  Love....

Just so you know I completely WINGED making this quilt.  I wanted it to be simple so it wouldn't take forever to piece.

So I made the sashed pieces and then came up with the center strip piece.  I saved the striped fabric for the binding, because I am slightly obsessed with striped bindings....

I used the left-over fabric to make the back.  It is at the quilter's now.

In other news......I broke 3 ribs Friday afternoon.  Had a wreck with my horse, he's OK (the turd).  I broke my 2nd rib and fractured the 3rd and 5th.  Had to stay in the hospital over night since the top broken rib had made a small puncture in the top of my lung.  This morning it was all back to normal though, other than the broken bones!  Pain meds are my friends right now......

They broke on my right side so rotary cutting is difficult at best.  Guess I'll stick to bindings for the next week or two.

It sucks not being able to pick up my little one though!!!  :(

Always,

Gentrie

P.S. I am still starting my new job Monday.......I know I'm stubborn.  I'll take it easy I promise.

Happy Easter

Saturday our local quilt shop, Quilts & More, had a small petting zoo for the kiddies.  We went out to enjoy the festivities.  Since they are also having their spring cleaning sales I had to take a peek.

She had minke on sale and since my family is OBSESSED with minke on the back of all their quilts, I took a look.

Hailey picked out this one, a 3 yard cut, big enough for a snugly.

I picked this beauty....2.25 yards, must have been the end of the bolt.
I love this fabric, so I'm thinking for the first time in my quilting I will use this on the top of a quilt.

Later we went Easter Egg hunting at the church.  Piper had a blast.
Followed by grocery shopping and all the mundane activities we do before the big Easter festivities with family.

Today we went to church and then came home to make Easter dinner.  We all had a good time.

My Easter girls today.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!!!

Family Day...

I did not get to quilt this weekend again, but it's OK, because I got to go hang out with my niece and her kids.

We ate lunch, played at the park,

and we played at my sister's.

Liliah taking a picture of me taking a picture of her!

This is the little guy the Geko quilt is for.

This meant that once again, Sunday I spent getting laundry done, cleaning the house and getting groceries.  *sigh*

'Til we meet again little Geko quilt.....

Patience.....not MY virtue

So I am waiting on some news, and let me tell you, patience IS NOT a virtue of mine!  I am so stinkin' impatient it is driving me crazy.  I feel itchy and like I have bees buzzing in my head.

I must say I am more patient than some other people in my life.....not to name names......Mark......

HEHE!

Anyway, I had every intention of starting the late baby quilt on Sunday and well, it didn't work.

Piper had one of those days where she just wouldn't cooperate.

That irritates me too.  Not mad at Piper.  Just edgy because I can't follow through on my plans and what I wanted to get done.

Probably had more to do with my other patience issues right now....

Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentines day!  It is my husband's birthday on Valentines day so that holiday kind-of gets shoved back to the back burner around our house.

Although he always remembers to get me a gift......

This year's gift, a copper bracelet.  He really knows me pretty well.  I am not a big fan of gold.  I love copper and silver.

So, here's to hoping that answers come soon or that I find some patience somewhere.....

Always,

Gentrie

Valentines and Crafts

So this weekend is Valentines Day, also known in our house as Mark's birthday.  Hailey's class is having their party on Friday.

So it is filling out Valentine card season again.  I am a little bit bummed that her class is not doing the boxes this year.  Then again, there is a part of me that is relieved.

So these are the Valentines she picked out.
Yep, remember making these as kids?

Well I folded 28 of these bad boys Saturday.
My fingers are sore, and tired, and.....

Well anyway, I didn't have much time to work on this binding do to Valentines day prep and office party preps and such...
Mark was feeling a little crafty too.....
I let him borrow my cutting mat and rotary cutter.  I know, I'm wonderful, or crazy.  The up side is he always buys me a knew blade after he's done.

He made a purse/pouch for Hailey.  He said he has a few finishing touches to put on it, but you get the jist.

She loved it BTW.

Always,

Gentrie

Piper

Piper wearing big sissy's Favorite hat

She's not much for hats, but she sure liked this one!

(I'm sure it had nothing to do with it being Hailey's!)

Have a wonderful Hump-day!

OK....You got me.

OK, so maybe not all of our Internet problems are resolved.
Or maybe it's really a computer problem.
Or maybe it's a life problem.
Work, Girl Scouts, dinner, laundry, groceries, soccer, meetings with teachers, vehicle repairs, family concerns, is this even really a sentence?

We did go down and get to meet the newest addition to the family, Lilia (no 'h' I was informed).

Hailey SO loves babies, she just wanted to hold her all the time.  Of course there was the disappointment that she is too young to play at all.  I think the cuteness made up for it though.

Well, I was going to post more pictures, but it seems my picture uploader has other ideas.

Yours in life and frustration.....

The new addition

I have so much news!  Where do I start?  I have been a very bad blogger.  Then as I was looking at a lot of other blogs that I follow I noticed that I was not the only "bad blogger" this year.  Seems as though a lot of people are having a hard time keeping up this year.

So now I don't feel quite as bad.

I think we got our Internet issues resolved.  Hence the new post.

For my first and BEST news.......drum roll please!

I am a Great Aunt!

I am not just singing my own praises, my niece had her first baby.  January 9th, Liliah Vaughn White.

Aaaahhhhhh!  She's cute too!

Don't you just LOVE babies?!?!  (I borrowed these pictures from my niece.)

I love this one, looks like she's talking with Mommy.

I used to sleep this way, still do sometimes.  Hailey sleeps like this sometimes too.

I know, I know, she's so cute right?  We'll be getting to see her this weekend.  Taking a day trip over to hang out and meet the new addition.

I won't have to borrow photos then, I'll have plenty of my own.

I just came to the realization the other day that sometimes, just sometimes..........

......you just have throw your hands up and let go!

(Look, my cat even sleeps like that!  MUST be a family trait!)  Yes, she's sleeping with her eyes open, weird, another family trait, the weird part.

Until next time, hopefully sooner than later.......

The new addition

We have a new addition in our family.

Her name is Daisy.  (Hailey named her.)

Do you know how hard it is to photograph a kitten when they are not sleeping?

She was chasing the camera strap.  She is probably about 6 - 8 weeks old.

Moving, again.

Her and her sister were dumped out by our shop.  They got into something that burned their mouths a little bit, but that is healing nicely.  Her sister went to a farm with some other kitties to live out her days living in a barn and chasing mice.

I think Daisy got the better end of the deal.  She really does have it made.

A Quick trip to the Lake

We went to Fort Peck (the lake not the town) to visit with some friends.  It was great to see them again!  We went out on boats and fished and drove fast and laughed on the lake.

Of course.....

I did not remember to bring my camera for this part.  (I think it was an unconscious fear of dropping my camera in the lake.)

It's my blog, I'm sticking with that story......

For the record, this is our friends campsite.  This works well to block the wind, with an open view to the lake.

After all the boating and lunch, my INSANE daughter wanted to swim (in the 63 degree lake).

My crazy daughter also found a friend to swim with.

....him and a few friends, she was collecting them.

Can you find the frog?

Of course, where there are frogs, there are snakes......this is a baby one.

Having a good weekend?

THE Boots

Hailey finally got a new pair of cowgirl boots.

She was Super excited the whole ride there!

These are the new boots.......this is the first time she took them off except for sleeping.

So what do you think?  Women's size 7 boot......Yikes!

School Fashion Show

The first day of school was yesterday.  Hailey got to meet her new teacher and see her new school.  She said their were a couple of kids in her class that she knew from daycare.  (I was glad, I worried about her all day!)

Tuesday night she had a fashion show of her new clothes for her Dad.  (Her Dad's idea since for some reason he wanted to help her pick her first day outfit.)

We shut down the lights and sat in the living room.  Dad ran a flashlight spotlight for her "runway" walk.

Total drama posing..........you can see Dad's handy spotlight work.  This was his favorite outfit.

OK, cute outfit, but this picture turned out cool with the motion showing......and the crazy spotlight blur (Dad was going for the strobe affect I think.)

Oh Yeah!  Show off that glitter Girl!  (Don't mind Dad's spiky hair.)

I personally really like this sweater.  She looks very grown up in it.  (*sniff*)

She looks super cute in this hat, but I couldn't get a good shot.

There were other outfits but these were the best photos.

The first day went well and she thought she may like this school better.  I think the kids have been a little more excepting of the "new kid".  She has made quite a few friends already.

More later!

PS - She wore the first outfit on the first day!

Rancher Rodeo

Last Sunday I went to the Glendive rancher rodeo with my sister.  This is not like a regular rodeo.  This rodeo simulates activities ranchers really have to perform.  Like seperating certain cows to be worked on or sold or shipped.

First find the cows with your number on their back.

Seperate them to the other end of the arena....

Get them in the pen........

Then shut the gate.  The time whistle is blown.........

Then there is the branding competition (they use chalk on the branding iron).......

Time doesn't stop until they are back in the pen with their buddies.  Sometimes they need a little help in the right direction......

Then ther's vacination.......RUN!  Time doesn't stop here until the "vet" makes it back to the timer.  They use a red chalk pen for this one.

I had a visitor during the whole thing......I think he was enjoying the show too...

Then there's a little bulldogging.........

Then there's a little loading a cow and some horses in the trailer........

For all these they have to rope a specific cow with the "certain" number on it's back before performing the task.  Not as easy as it sounds.  It is also timed, so if they take too long getting the right calf they have no time for the task.....then it's a no time.

It was fun, in a watching how uncooperative and unpredictable animals can be, kind of way!
